India...more than the land of snakecharmers
July 8th 2008 07:31
I am an Indian, born and brought up in India and I still feel I do not know my country the way I should. That is because Indai is so vast, and by the vastness I just don't mean the geographical area but also the immense amount of culture stored in this area.
Every state here is totally different from the adjacent one....the food, the language, the customs, the costumes...In fact it is said that in India you can find a totally different culture every 10 steps!
It seems as if, when God was creating the different nations and its inhabitants, every time he created someone who just couldn’t be placed anywhere else, he placed him in India. And just so that the harmony was maintained, he gave everyone an added trait of acceptance and tolerance to live in this diversity.
That is why I say, India is not just the land of snake charmers, as many still believe it to be. It is also a place where the most number of movies are made in the world. It is also the world's largest democracy and where you can find the century old Buddhist caves in Ajanta and Ellora which are still a paradox to many as to how they were built….it is also where you can find the delicious rasgollas of West Bengal
or women wearing a 9 yard saree in Maharashtra….and yes the saree is worn in every state quite differently from the others….
I want my blog to be a window to India…but also to the world….
I want you to read, comment, add your experience..good or bad about this country and maybe help me discover the land I was born in….
I think a whole lifetime is insufficient to know this country…but let me make a start…..
