Second day of Diwali. Talk Beauty.
October 27th 2008 05:26
The second day of the Indian festival diwali is the fourteenth day of the kartik month according to the lunar calendar. And this day acts as a precursor to the D-day celebrated as choti or smaller version of diwali. It is also the day called as roopchaudaw which translates into roop-beauty and chaudas – 14 th day.
I think people understood that before diwali the women of the house had to do a lot of hard work to clean the house, prepare all the festive savories and therefore this day was marked as a rest day when they could just beautify themselves before the celebration.
This day is also known as Narak chaturdashi as is believed that it was on this day that the demon Naraksur who was creating havoc on earth was killed by the Gods.
For kids this day is just another robust and fun filled day of firing crackers, lighting lamps, although not in as grand a manner as they will do tomorrow on the main festival night.
If you are in the mood to beautify yourself and pamper yourself, this is the day for you. And if someone asks what you are doing in a spa on a Monday morning, just tell him or her I am celebrating Diwali!
